Lets talk strategy

So I'm kinda mixed on buying pin moves that don't do damage. Is there any advantage to these rather than just the standard pin? My issue with buying non damaging pin moves is that often times it messes up my attack sequence. I'll try the pinning move when my opponent is still in green and he resolutely gets up and fights back (or whatever the script says). This is pointless because all it does is give control to my opponent.
